Charity dinner helps fund inner city youth rugby project

Deputy Commisioner Tim Godwin hands cheque to the RFU President John Owen

An SLF Charity dinner held at New Scotland Yard earlier this year enabled Met Deputy Commissioner Tim Godwin, in his role as one of the trustees of the Foundation, to hand over a cheque to RFU President John Owen for £20,000.

The grant from SLF goes to youth rugby project, Hitz. Based in the heart of inner city estates, Hitz targets young people at risk of exclusion and anti social behaviour.

Using the power of rugby and the appeal of the England team, the Guinness Premiership Clubs and the Rugby Football Union in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, Active Communities Network and Wooden Spoon, the Hitz programme targets some of the most disadvantaged areas in London, with plans to expand across the country.
