CEP Conference 09

Saturday 03 October 2009

City Hall, home of the GLA, by Tower Bridge

Building on almost two years of the Community Engagement Programme (CEP) seminars delivered in every London borough, SLF, with the CEP partner agencies, thought it would be good idea to create a larger event which covered issues that the CEP seminars had not yet addressed, as well as bringing together Safer Neighbourhoods Panel chairs and members of Community Police Engagement Groups (CPEGs) from across the capital.

Thus the CEP Conference took place on Saturday 03 October 2009 in one of London's premier venues: London's Living Room at City Hall.

Approximately 100 people, representing every London borough, attended the event to hear presentations from Cindy Butts, MPA Deputy Chair ,and Kit Malthouse, London's Deputy Mayor  for Policing, The Met's Chief Superintendent Adrian Hanstock, head of Safer Neighbourhoods, plus CPEG representatives, Safer Neighbourhoods Panel Chairs, young people from the GLA Youth Peer Outreach Team, the Bromley Youth Panel, Westminster Council and the MPS Volunteer Police Cadets.

London's Living RoonTopics that were covered included engaging with young people, how to communicate with your local community, the future of Safer Neighbourhoods and working with the CPEGs, as well as a lively open forum of questions and answers.

The Conference was a great success and was supported by the MPA, LCP2, the MPS and the GLA's Youth Peer Outreach Team.

The organisers of the Conference were very happy with the way the event unfolded and it is hoped that this can become an annual event.
