About Safer London Foundation
Vision
We are the Met Police’s official charity. Our vision is for London to be a safer city and for everyone living and working in the capital to
feel safe and be
safe.
Mission
To engage with young Londoners and inspire those involved in crime or at risk of violence and crime to feel empowered. We can help them recognise they have choices and can build productive lives free from criminal behaviour.
Purpose
Our unique role involves supporting police and communities by developing projects in areas identified as most in need. This can be on a specific estate, across a borough or pan-London. We listen to young people in their communities, understand their problems and create communication bridges. This can improve relations with the police and directly impact on crime in London’s hard to reach areas.
Our experiences and involvement with young people enable us to influence policy within the Met Police and also with City Hall and national Government to address key issues affecting many young Londoners. We work in partnership with them and local voluntary sector groups, local authorities and the probation services in the delivery of projects and campaigns.
Our funding
Our funding comes from the Metropolitan Police Service and Metropolitan Police Authority, which has been replaced by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPC), as well as donations from private and public sector organisations and fundraising events.
Metropolitan Police Service
We are the Met Police’s official charity and our activities support its Children & Young People’s Strategy. We partner with police Safer Neighbourhood Teams, specialist Met Police services, local groups and established services and agencies to ensure our work complements and adds value to existing activities. We focus on the London boroughs and wards that are most affected by high levels of deprivation. Our projects are evaluated with our partners so successful work can be replicated across London.
