<title>SLF Hitz funding moves rugby into the heart of inner city estates</title>

<p>Using the power of rugby and the appeal of the England team, the Guinness Premiership Clubs and the Rugby Football Union in partnership with the Metropolitan Police, Active Communities Network and Wooden Spoon, the Hitz programme targets some of the most disadvantaged areas in London.</p>]]></description>

<title>SLF pressgangs MPS graduates as volunteers for sailing charity</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>In a partnership instigated by Safer London Foundation<img class="imageFloatRight_" style="margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;" src="/_assets/images/homepage_pics/kids_4.jpg" alt="Young sailors at the AHOY Centre in Deptford" width="300" height="195" /> - the  Metropolitan Police charity &ndash; Met graduates have joined forces with the  AHOY Centre in Deptford in order to help disadvantaged young people -  including at-risk teenagers and those with disabilities - gain from team  work, personal development and problem solving activities.</p>
<p>The eleven-strong group from the MPS&rsquo; Directorate of Information will  help run the charity&rsquo;s Wednesday night youth groups, fundraising  activities and business development outreach - targeting Canary Wharf  and other corporate partners.</p>]]></description>

<title>Met Police Charity Celebrates Five Years of Making London Safer</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>The Safer London Foundation (SLF), the official<img class="imageFloatRight_" src="/_assets/images/misc/DSC_6899b.jpg" alt="Dinah Cox MBE, Tony  Shepherd, Sir Paul Stephenson and Bruce Melizan with the SLF 5th  birthday cake" width="300" height="203" /> Metropolitan Police  Charity, celebrated its fifth birthday this week, with a demonstration  of its crime prevention work at The 02* in Greenwich, showcasing urban dance, MCs and young entertainers.</p>
<p>The charity, which funds  more than 120 crime prevention projects across the capital, was  established in partnership with London&rsquo;s business community in 2005 to  combat the rise in London&rsquo;s violent crime, and also to aid victim  support.</p>

<title>Home Secretary Applauds Foundation in Crime Prevention Work</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>Home Secretary Alan Johnson left Londoners in no <img style="float: right; margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;" src="/_assets/images/misc/IMG_0715_sml.jpg" alt="Tony  Shepherd with Alan Johnson at Da'Watul Islam" width="300" height="195" />doubt about his  commitment to crime prevention this week as Safer London Foundation  (SLF) took him to visit a project using film to combat youth violence,  part funded by SLF.</p>
<p>Joined by the SLF team alongside Da&rsquo;Watul Islam president Mahmudul  Hasan, the Home Secretary visited the &lsquo;Shaddywood Crime Film Challenge&rsquo;  project, which brings together young people from a variety of faiths,  using the way gang violence is portrayed by Hollywood to help confront  the reality of these crimes on the streets.</p>]]></description>

<title>SLF Scores Touchdown with £50K from Rugby Dinner</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>On Monday 19 April, SLF raised an amazing &pound;50,000 <img class="imageFloatRight_" style="margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;" src="/_assets/images/misc/martin_J.png" alt="Martin Johnson holding  Micophone" width="300" height="150" />with a charity rugby  dinner at New Scotland Yard. The evening featured a discussion on rugby  and leadership between Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and England Rugby  Team Manager, Martin Johnson. It was hosted by BBC sports commentator  Jill Douglas and attended by Graham Rowntree, Rob Andrew, Jeff Probyn,  Roger Uttley, Phil de Glanville, Jason Leonard, Paul Rendall, and Ed  Morrison.</p>]]></description>

<title>The Prince of Wales Continues To Back Safer London Foundation </title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>Work in crime prevention, community safety and <img class="imageFloatRight_" style="margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px;" src="/_assets/images/misc/HRH_newspage.png" alt="HRH The Prince of  Wales shaking hands with  a crowd outdoors" width="300" height="198" />cohesion, carried out  by the Safer London Foundation, has again won Royal seal of approval  from HRH The Prince of Wales. It was confirmed that His Royal  Highness has agreed to extend his Patronage of the Safer London  Foundation for a further five years.</p>
<p>HRH The Prince of Wales initially supported The Safer London Foundation and became its inaugural Patron when the charity was first established  in 2005. The Foundation promotes community safety by channelling money  and support from business, the public sector and also from criminal  assets seizures, into grassroots crime prevention initiatives.</p>]]></description>

<title>Crime Charity Tackles Donation from Police Rugby Team</title>

<p>This donation resulted from a Met rugby team&rsquo;s success at an O2  six-a-side rugby challenge event at Twickenham stadium late last year.  One of the two Met teams taking part won the competition and chose Safer  London Foundation, the Metropolitan Police Charity, as the beneficiary  of the &pound;4000 prize.</p>]]></description>

<p>Confiscated from criminal activity by the Police, under the Proceeds of Crime Act (2002), around &pound;170,000 in cash will be allocated to several grass-roots projects, which work to divert young people away from street crime, gang-related violence and weapons offences.</p>]]></description>

<title>London Business Leaders Dine in the Clink</title>

<p>Organised by the Safer London Foundation (SLF), the Metropolitan Police Charity, companies experienced first-hand culinary skills of offenders who are training to be chefs, kitchen staff and waiters, so that they may gain work and make a positive contribution to society following their release.</p>]]></description>
