This is Aaron's Story

What becomes of youths involved in street violence?"I had to battle at school and battle at home. Fighting gave me respect and as a result I got involved in the wrong crowd. I used to rob people and places, I ended up being stabbed three times and going to prison. I felt unwanted and that I was just a statistic.

I was introduced to Emmanuel Youth Project [EYP], and with their support I got involved in activities that kept me busy and away from the streets. EYP have staff with an understanding of young peoples' issues and have clear boundaries and expectations, it is a place for the whole community and I became part of the EYP family.

I began volunteering at EYP, assisting other young people and taking part in fundraising. I completed a level 2 media communications course and now have enrolled on a youth work course."

Emmanuel Youth Project recived a substantial SLF grant in 2008.

Aaron is also a client of SLF's own Aspire project, which mentors ex-offenders into sustainable work, education or training. Click here to find out more about Aspire.
