Alex’s story
Alex is coming to the end of a sentence for drug importation but she is starting a career in office administration whilst released on licence.
"I left home when I was fifteen due to problems with my parents and then I was pretty much lost. I was young and around people that sold drugs and that's how I ended up importing.
Some offenders never have support, just their old way of life to return to, so to break the cycle is hard. This job did it for me. The team I work with give me confidence, but also a career. I have something to work towards now. So when I'm released I can avoid making the mistakes I did before. If SLF hadn't found me this opportunity, I think I would probably have given up hope."
SLF's Aspire Project has mentored Alex into sustainable employment. Offenders with a job to go to when released are 50% less likely to re-offend.
