Community Engagement Programme
for Safer Neighbourhoods Panels and Community Police Engagement Groups

Providing independent support and information to those who keep London's policing
locally accountable

The Community Engagement Programme (CEP) was delivered by the Metropolitan Police Authority, Metropolitan Police Service and Safer London Foundation (the Metrpolitan Police charity). Its aim was to provide support and information to Safer Neighbourhood Panel (SNP) Members and Community Police Engagement Groups (CPEGs) throughout London. All three partners recognise the important role played by Panel members and are committed to the success of CEP.

CEP 2008 - 2010
The programme has now ended. This page is still available to all Safer Neighbourhood Teams and Safer Neighbourhood Panels as a source of information. On the left hand column under the 'Resources' heading, there are a series of training documents and factsheets. Please download and use these as you see fit.

Training Seminars
Our training seminars were held in all 32 London boroughs across London. Here is a comment from one of the attendees:

"The feedback from the group at the session was excellent. Having the young people, their mentor and lead plus the Police contact present was a perfect demonstration of effective partnership policing. Their story was compelling and memorable, way better than charts and jargon-heavy one-way dialogue from any police trainer. All training needs to adopt this more innovative experiential approach because it is not only effective but all parties present learn from it.

One further point, it was impressive that the Chief Inspector and one of his Inspectors attended the entire session. This is because it sends a signal that SN Panel Chairs and this training are important to Met Policing."

As well as training seminars, we also held a pan-London Conference, Youth Engagement Training and a Problem Solving session.

Evaluations

Want to know how the programme went? Two comprehensive reports were written in 2010. One was authored by the Middlesex University Forensic Psychologisch Services Department at the end of Stage III. Another was written by CEP staff at the end of the programme. Both are available to download from the left hand column.
